It’s been out for at least a couple of months at this point but I just got around to it. Windows Live Search for Mobile is a very nice little application that you really should try out if you’ve got a Windows Mobile phone (it looks like it supports J2ME phones as well). It features the essentials for when you’re on the go–local search for businesses/residential, directions, maps, and traffic information.
What I really like about it is it flows really nicely and is very easy to interact with via the device. It’s definitely a mobile rich client and it seems to make a huge difference. It uses large icons, simple dialogs, and clear graphics. Its traffic feature is definitely the best one I’ve seen on a phone and searching in general just seems snappier than a regular search via a browser. Good stuff.
If you’re interested in trying it, I suggest you head to http://wls.live.com directly from your phone’s browser. That’s probably the easiest way to get going as it’s packaged up as a CAB. Here’s a link to the site for WLS on ideas.live.com which has more information on the app and here’s a link to a blog post talking about it as well on the Windows Mobile Team blog. Lastly, if you’re interested in some screenshots, Wendong has a few here.
