Nil Lara is amazing. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard much of him for years now and his site seems to not be all the current anymore. He was pretty popular back in the Miami scene during a few years in the 90s along with some other great bands like Forget The Name (FtN) and Natural Causes, great bars like Washington Square, Stephen Talkhouse, Churchill’s Hideaway, and Rose’s (though I think this one was a little later). Great vocalists like Rene Alvarez of FtN and later Sixo, Arlan Feiles (who I just noticed is still at it after doing a quick search–gotta check out his new stuff) of Natural Causes, and Nil. Great times, great music.
I was going through some old CDs the other day and ran across a couple of Nil Lara’s CDs: My First Child (really hard to find now) and the self-titled Nil Lara album (which is probably still easy to find nowadays). Da is another one I have somewhere though I was never able to get into that one as much as the others. Anyway, both of the first two I mentioned each had a different version of a song called My First Child. I’ve always preferred the version on the ‘My First Child’ album which reminds me of hanging out at Not Just Guitars in Miami sneaking peeks at Nil’s guitarist at that time who I’m pretty sure gave lessons at that store. Looking back, I wish I had taken guitar lessons back then and it would have been awesome to have gotten some from the man himself (though I’m drawing a blank on his name).
Anyway, I just spent a few minutes figuring out the chords to My First Child. You can get the full lyrics from the official site but here are some chords for those who want to play along…

Thanks for posting this. I remember seeing Nil all over Miami back in the mid 90′s, particularly at Stephen Talkhouse. Great performer and about as punk as you can get without being cliché for latin music. Glad he never sold out.
Hi Gus,
I was there at all those places with all those people. Wonderful memories. I’m tooling around with this song and I think it’s an F and not Am at “I’ll show you no harm” Try it, you agree?
Hi, Linda. First of all, I’m sorry for not “approving” your comment for so long. Just slipped under the radar. I’ll definitely try it next time I’m around a guitar. And, yes, great memories indeed. Thanks!
Hi again, Linda. You’re definitely right. Not sure how I ever had an Am for that actually. I’ve updated the post. Thanks for pointing it out!
