Last night I decided to get another one of the things I haven’t had time to do off the list. Now that I had upgraded the blog to Movable Type 3.2 I figured it was a good idea to get the latest versions of the plugins I use: MTAmazon and BookQueue (now called Media Manager). These plugins make the list of books on the right side of my site possible.

I installed the RC4 of Media Manager and MTAmazon 1.3.3. It’s definitely a huge improvement over the original version of BookQueue I was using but I’ve encountered several problems, some that are preventing me from actually using it.

Here’s the list so far:

- There doesn’t seem to be a way to actually modify an item once I’ve added it to the list of items I have. You can bring up the edit page for an item and change the values but then there’s no button to allow you to save the changes you just made–at least I haven’t found one. Here are two screenshots showing what I’m talking about: expanded view and compact view. This is the one that’s preventing me from changing an item from it’s default setting of “unread.” If I’m missing something please let me know. I’ve figured this one out and it seems to have been a problem on my side. I noticed some of the .tmpl files weren’t clean html and then I redownloaded the zip file from Byrne’s site and realized they were correct. So something must have happened when I transferred them over the first time. All is good now with this problem.

- This one doesn’t seem to be blocking me at all but it shows up all of the time. Whenever I click on the Media Manager link I usually get this message: “An error occurred: File does not exist: Error retreiving Amazon info: at /cgi-bin/plugins/MediaManager/lib/MediaManager/Util.pm line 67″. After a few tries though it usually works.

- This is a minor nit as it also doesn’t block me at all but whenever you click on “Display Options” the actual dialog shows way down at the bottom of the page overlapping with the MT footer.

- Sorting on the “modified_on” field doesn’t seem to work. Whenever I try to the items don’t show up on the site. If I get rid of just this attribute in the template it all works fine.

- Using the “lastn=3″ attribute seems to be getting ignored. Instead of just limiting to the number specified it lists all of the items.

Other than that, this seems to be well on its way to being an awesome plugin. I’d highly recommend it to anyone assuming I figure out what I’m doing wrong or it gets fixed soon if it these are actual bugs.
