I’ve stuck with the Motorola MPX-220 for a while now. I’ve had some issues with it over time; some that still haven’t been addressed even by the latest rom version. So I decided to go looking and and ended up getting an i-mate SP5.

So far the new one rocks and hasn’t shown any of the issues I had with the MPX-220. It’s also got a bunch of nice changes that came as a result of it using a newer version of the OS (Windows Mobile 5.0) as well as some nice features on the device itself such as a ridiculously sharp screen and wifi 802.11 wireless lan access.

So far all of this has been great except I haven’t been able to get it to connect to my home wireless network. I have a Jasjar that connects just fine using pretty much the same exact settings but no dice with the new SP5.

I’ve already spent a few hours trying to figure it out but I’m going to give up for now till I ask some of the guys that have worked on the devices teams who might save me from wasting any more time on this. Everything else works great such as using ActiveSync via Bluetooth (which caused me pain in the past), the signal status is always accurate (major pain point for me with the MPX-220), Bluetooth works great in the car, it comes with MSN Mobile on the OS so I can automatically connect to my hotmail account (which I’m about to move to permanently and away from the gmail account) and a bunch of other nice things.

GPRS wise it’s also working fine though I had to hunt down what the configuration settings needed to be. After a quick search I found them over on HowardForums.

Now if only I could figure out Wifi I’ll be set. I guess there’s always something.
