I’ve been hearing about Ruby for a while now and I’m getting curious enough to wonder if I should dedicate some time to learn it. Learning a new language is always fun but it really comes down to a time thing.

One of the things I’m curious to see is whether or not there would be advantages to using Ruby instead of where we use Perl at work (test harness, quick scripts, tools, etc.). Also, if it makes sense to use it instead of C# (which we’re all really familiar with) if we were to start some of these projects from scratch. The latter is more a question of the advantages of a scripting based solution vs. a compiled solution really. Perl has worked well for us for a bunch of years now though.

Anyway, if I do start messing with it, expect some more posts on the subject. Might actually be a good source for blog material…
