We’ve ended up using Netflix a lot more lately to rent various TV Show DVDs (e.g. Sopranos, The Shield) as well as regular movies. One thing that was always a bit painful was making sure I’d remember to move the next DVD in the series to the top of the queue when I was returning the previous DVD.

If you find yourself in the same situation, you might want to consider using the NetFlix Account Profiles feature. It’s the feature designed to make renting DVDs easy for a family (e.g. a queue for the parents and one for the kids, etc.). But it can also be used to solve the problem I described above.

I’ve created a new profile whose queue is used to exclusively keep the TV Series DVDs and use my original profile to keep all the regular movies. This makes the process I had to remember to do manually now automatic. Every time we return the latest TV Series DVD, we’ll get the next one next. If we return a movie, we’ll get the next movie in the queue.

Not a brilliant idea but I figured it would be worth posting in case someone hadn’t thought of it yet and would be helped by it…

It’s funny, but right before posting this I decided to search and see if this is even worth posting or not. I did find this link from a pretty cool site (hackingnetflix.com). Posting anyway…
