So far the new smartphone is looking a million-times better than my first pocket-pc based phone a while back. We’re definitely loving it. There was one thing that was really bugging us though. Whenever you connect the phone to your computer via the USB cable within a few minutes if not seconds the phone would make a sound and display a dialog with the following message:

“Unable to connect using your default connection. Attempt a connection using Pass through connection instead?”

Before messing around with the pretty serious amount of settings on the phone I did a quick search and found Nick MacKechnie’s post on this exact error with the solution that has so far fixed the problem for us:

“To resolve this error -> Click on Start/Settings/More/Data Connections and set the Internet Connection to Automatic.”

Thanks Nick!

I wonder why this wasn’t the default setting. I imagine there’s a good reason for having to confirm that the user wants to connect via pass through but I also imagine most people would be totally fine with it. Which means the majority of smartphone users would end up having to change this setting to free themselves of that pesky dialog. Oh well…

Now I’m off to figure out how to disable the “Battery Full” dialog that shows up all the time that was second in the peskiness line…
